Reports to:  Executive Director


Cedar Valley Hospice is a mission driven, not-for-profit organization serving 15 counties with offices in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Grundy Center, Independence and Waverly, Iowa. Our experienced and professional staff provide the highest quality, compassionate care while focusing on making each moment matter for the patient and family.  We are currently seeking a Development Director to join our well-respected team.


The Development Director, a member of the Management team as well as the Advancement team, is responsible for overseeing all fund-raising activities and donor development across all Cedar Valley Hospice locations.  Hours will generally be Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm with the ability to work a flexible schedule when needed, according to agency events and other needs.  Position requires walking, standing and sitting.  Some lifting may be required. 


Responsibilities:

• Serve on the Management Team guiding the non-profit organization to fulfill the annual strategic plan while maintaining standards and upholding organization's quality of care, mission statement and organizational culture.

• Work collaboratively with Advancement Team while supporting and managing development staff and volunteers to achieve the fundraising goals of the organization.


• Build and maintain relationships across interdisciplinary teams within the organization and beyond including members of the Executive Team, Governing Board of Directors, Friends of Cedar Valley Hospice Committees, Circle of Hope Major Giving Society, volunteers, business and community leaders, healthcare partners, sponsors and potential grant sources.


• Develop and coordinate all fundraising projects including corporate and in-kind sponsorships, donor solicitations and acknowledgments; determine and implement the annual fundraising plan as approved by the Governing Board; responsible for capital campaigns, major donor society and grant writing; oversee the planning and execution of all fundraising events and materials.


• Research and identify donor prospects including individuals, corporations, and foundations; manage and cultivate the stewardship of donors and sponsors at all levels of giving; research and write grant proposals and track and complete follow-up reports as needed.


• Complies with agency policies and procedures, including HIPAA, regarding confidentiality of information for all persons served by CVH and agency operations. Abides by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the Association of Fundraising Professionals Codes of Ethics.


• Assumes other responsibilities as designated.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in business, communication, marketing, public relations, or related field.
2. 3+ years’ experience in professional fundraising, preferably in a non-profit or healthcare setting.
3. 3+ years management experience.
4. Experience in grant writing with an understanding of the importance of relationships between foundations and grant seekers.
5. Demonstrated success in donor relations and stewardship.
6. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and strong public speaking experience.
7. Successful creator of written development materials for the purposes of acknowledging, cultivating, and informing donors and other stakeholders to sustain philanthropic support and advocacy.
8. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people including donors, board members, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and team/staff members.
9. Experience working with a donor data base and familiarity about using this system to segment donors as needed.
10. Current Iowa driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
11. Experience working in a team environment preferred.
