Compliance Manager
Job Type:  Full Time (1.0 FTE)
Salaried- Exempt 
Reports to:  Executive Director
 
Cedar Valley Hospice is a mission driven, not-for-profit organization serving 15 counties with offices in Waterloo, Grundy Center, Independence and Waverly, Iowa. Our experienced and professional staff provide the highest quality, compassionate care while focusing on making each moment matter for the patient and family.  We are currently seeking a Compliance Manager to join our well-respected team.
The Compliance Manager will be responsible for monitoring compliance related to the care and services delivered to patients, families and clients. Hours will generally be Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm with the ability to work a flexible schedule when needed, according to agency needs. Position requires walking, standing and sitting.  Some lifting may be required.  
Responsibilities:
 
1. Abides by the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
2. Complies with agency policies and procedures, including HIPAA, regarding confidentiality of information for all persons served by CVH and agency operations.
3. Complies with all state and federal regulations, reporting any potential non-compliance to the Executive Director.
4. Participates in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI).
5. Follows standards established by NHPCO, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other relevant organizations.
6. Responsible for the following:
a. Participates in utilization review of all program areas in conjunction with Directors of Clinical Services and Executive Director
b. Participates in volunteer orientation in-services, as requested, and consults with Volunteer Coordinators on in-service topics related to compliance
c. Assures familiarity and compliance with any regulations – state and federal – such as HIPAA, CMS, IDPH  
7. Oversees Corporate Compliance program and policies.
8. Assists other Directors in the evaluation and monitoring of staff and volunteer competency.
9. Participates in committees as assigned.
10. Functions as a resource person for staff, volunteers, patients, families and outside individuals, groups and agencies.
11. Participates in the design and review of the orientation process for new employees with participation as deemed necessary or appropriate as it relates to compliance.
12. Submission of all required Hospice Item Set filings in compliance with mandated timeframe.
13. Responsible for ensuring accurate compliant information is submitted for the CAHPS.
14. Responsible for monitoring documentation to support eligibility.
15. Responsible for regular ongoing compliance audits of the top ten survey deficiencies.
16. Responsible for monitoring regulatory alerts and updates and disseminating pertinent information throughout the Management Team.
17. Responsible for monitoring updates to standardized CMS forms.
18. Responsible for ongoing audits of certifications, recertifications, discharges and admissions.
19. Responsible for ongoing audits of longer length of stay patients.
20. Responsible for communicating educational needs determined by audits to the Clinical Services Managers and Education Manager.
21. Responsible for educating staff on proper procedures/protocol based on audit findings.
22. Responsible for reporting audit findings to clinical management team and the Executive Director.
23. Responsible to participate in the development of new and changed forms, process and protocols based on regulatory changes and/or guidance.
24. Participates as an active and contributing member of the Management Team.
25. Attends agency events as designated.
26. Assumes other responsibilities as designated by the Executive Director. 
 
 
Qualifications:
 
1. Associates or Bachelor's degree in nursing or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program required.
2. If a Nurse, a current Iowa state license as an RN required.
3. Four years’ experience as a Nurse or Social Worker in a related field preferred; two years’ experience in hospice care required.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
5. Computer skills required.  Proficiency in Word and Excel required.
6. Experience working in a team environment preferred.
7. Current Iowa driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
