Cedar Valley Hospice Receives CAHPS

National Award for Patient Care

Cedar Valley Hospice has been named a 2023 national award recipient of the Hospice Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS). This CAHPS Honors is a prestigious annual review that recognizes agencies that continually provide quality care as measured by the patients’ experiences and those of their caregivers.

Hospice patient Jill Hillman and her sister and caregiver, Annie, learned firsthand the quality of our care. Jill wanted to go swimming one more time, as she found that being in the water alleviated some of the back pain that accompanied her stage 4 breast and bone cancer. Her Cedar Valley Hospice team made it possible for her to spend an afternoon at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex pool. Jill enjoyed walking and floating around, which reminded her sister Annie of the times she and her siblings and would walk up to Byrnes Pool when they were younger to go swim.

“This is really something,” said Jill that day, smiling from ear to ear. “I want people to know that Cedar Valley Hospice people are so nice and helpful. They do a lot… take good care of me and can really do so much for families.”

2023 CAHPS Winner

This distinguished CAHPS award is determined by analyzing survey responses asking caregivers if they received timely help, had good support and communication, were trained on how to care for their loved one, and ultimately, if they would recommend this hospice to others. Cedar Valley Hospice is one of only seven hospices in Iowa chosen for this recognition and is the only one in our area.

“This is a great honor for us,” said Cedar Valley Hospice Executive Director Michaela Vandersee. “This award is based on

caregiver responses on a survey that directly evaluates our performance of the care provided to their loved one. Our ratings rank above the national averages for satisfaction, which a testament to our amazing staff and their dedication to our mission.”
