Carolyn Schmit
Told by Amy Frost, daughter
Cedar Valley Hospice holds a very special place in our hearts. Prior to 2022, my family did not have much if any experience working with hospice. In June 2022, our whole world changed. Our mom’s health really took a turn for the worse. The hospital doctors recommended getting Cedar Valley Hospice involved to help care for our mom. They really made the transition from hospital to hospice a smooth one.
Every step of the way Cedar Valley Hospice staff kept us informed of what was happening, changes they were seeing with mom, and preparing us. They went above and beyond in caring for our mom – keeping her pain under control and making sure she was comfortable. The same kind, caring support was also given to our family.
We have a very large family, and many were there daily. Cedar Valley Hospice made every effort to accommodate our large family gatherings around our mom. They took on the role of being a caregiver to mom, which allowed all of us to focus on her and spend quality time reminiscing, holding hands and just being with her without the added stress of managing her pain, medications and more.
Even in the midst of losing our mom and as heartbreaking as it was, there was also a sense of calmness and love, which I truly believe was due to the wonderful care and support we all received from Cedar Valley Hospice.
