Grant Jensen

Grant Jensen died in May 2024 after a short bout with pancreatic cancer. He was a pancreas transplant recipient 12 years ago, and often commented on how this was one of the greatest gifts he ever received. Grant was an honored Cedar Valley Hospice Volunteer for more than a decade, where he was privileged to spend time with patients. Despite health issues, Grant continued to serve on the Cedar Valley Hospice Governing Board of Directors for five years.

As told by his family:

Grant’s journey with Cedar Valley Hospice was a testament to the profound impact that compassionate care can have on individuals and their families. With his start as a volunteer in 2007, visiting patients to serving on its board, he was a cherished and passionate member of the Cedar Valley Hospice community. Though his time as a hospice patient was brief, the legacy of care and comfort he experienced left a mark on his life, our family and the lives of those who loved him.

Over the years, Grant’s connection to Cedar Valley Hospice became personal, as both his son, Tim, and his brother, Brent, had also been patients. This shared experience created an understanding and empathy within our family, allowing us to navigate the challenges of illness with a sense of unity and strength. The emotional and spiritual support the hospice team provided helped us all find moments of peace amidst the turmoil.

In the final days of Grant’s life, the hospice staff provided tremendous support for our family. Their dedication and passion ensured that Grant’s transition was comfortable and dignified. The gentle hands that cared for him, the kind words that offered reassurance and the presence of compassionate hearts made all the difference. During these moments, the true essence of hospice care shone through.

“Cedar Valley Hospice gave us the gift of time – time to laugh, to cry and to be together. Their kindness and care brought us peace in the most difficult moments. We are forever grateful for the love and support they showed our family,” said Nancy Jensen, Grant’s wife.

Grant’s passing in May was a poignant reminder of the fragility of life, but also of the strength that can be found in community and care. Cedar Valley Hospice’s support extended beyond the clinical by providing our family the opportunity to love, to grieve and to remember. The impact Cedar Valley Hospice had on Grant’s life cannot be measured in days or weeks. For Grant, hospice was not just a service – it was a lifeline that allowed him comfort in his final days.

As we honor his memory, we have witnessed firsthand the power of kindness and the importance of community in times of need through Cedar Valley Hospice. In remembering Grant, we celebrate a life well-lived and a community that rallied around him. Cedar Valley Hospice provided more than just care; they offered a sanctuary of compassion and support.
