Judy Goetsch

As told by Wendy Goetsch, daughter-in-law

As a family, we shared a week with Judy and Cedar Valley Hospice. This was one of the hardest weeks, but thanks to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, we were able to get through.

There is simply one word that encompasses our family’s experience with Cedar Valley Hospice – graciousness. From the moment we entered the hospice building, the nurses immediately cared for Judy and made her comfortable. She immediately got a shower, fresh pajamas and new comfy bedding (even her own personal quilt). After a difficult month in a hospital gown and bed, this was an amazing small piece of home she was able to have.  The nurses and staff always tended to Judy’s needs and made sure she was comfortable. But the graciousness did not stop there!

With six kids/spouses and six grandkids wanting to be by her side, we were blessed to have a room big enough for all of us to be with her.  In that room there were many memories shared, friends welcomed, and cookies eaten… (Judy has five hungry grandboys!)  They also allowed us a wonderful common kitchen and dining room with outdoor patio for shared family meals. One of our many thanks was for the care and love the nurses showed Craig. Saying goodbye to your wife and best friend of 39 years is hard. It is made harder by having to live in a hospital/hotel for a month. The space allowed Craig to very comfortably stay overnight with Judy. The staff was always there with a meaningful hug anytime you needed it. They helped us not only navigate what to expect at the end and how to help with after care; most importantly, they provided top notch care for Judy.

Judy always put others first and cared deeply for those around her – it was the biggest blessing for our family to have that modeled back to her in her final days. As we all still mourn Judy, we are forever grateful for all the graciousness Judy and our family received at Cedar Valley Hospice.
