LouDene Neverman

“LouDene Neverman, my mom, was a no-nonsense, spirited lady with a very dry sense of humor. She could always make you laugh with her witty remarks and loved spending time with her family whenever possible. She had 11 children, 31 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
She loved it when we took her on car rides to northeast Iowa. She would always laugh and say, ‘Don’t ask me to go if you don’t mean it because I’ll beat you to the car!’ One very special memory for me was when four of her daughters took her to Hawaii for her 75th birthday. We had so many laughs and it was truly one of my very favorite vacations!
In the last five or so years, Mom had started to develop dementia. She also had COPD towards the end of her life. She died on March 11 this year.
Cedar Valley Hospice started coming to the assisted living facility that mom was in and helped with showers and medications. This was a blessing for our family, as she could not shower safely by herself anymore or remember to take medications. We wanted to keep mom at the assisted living as long as possible without having to move her, and having Cedar Valley Hospice was a big help with that.
Mom was transported to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home on her 93rd birthday. Two staff members came that morning to talked with mom and explained very gently to her that she was going to stay at the Hospice Home for a while and how they would take very good care of her. I will never forget that conversation and how they talked to her so calmly and professionally. They explained that she would get to take a “limo” (ambulance) ride on her birthday to the home so they could keep her comfortable and ride in style. They kept her very comfortable, and we couldn’t be more thankful. There was a tree outside her room that was filled with finches and one bright red cardinal. After Mom passed, they all flew away.
I truly believe that Cedar Valley Hospice is the best. They take so much weight and responsibility off the family. We were able to spend valuable time with her without always being her caregiver as well. They treated mom with such care and respect. As I said, we have a very large family and they put up with all of us so well and were there to answer any questions, taking care of any concerns that we may have had. Cedar Valley Hospice took care of my dad 26 years ago as well, and I would recommend them to anyone.”
