Nanette Horton
As told by Kathy Anderson-Gosa
Â
Nanette “Nanny” Horton passed away August 15th peacefully from cancer at Cedar Valley Hospice. Nanny was a very giving, caring, and humorous woman. A joyful, compassionate spirit who always had a kind word and funny, encouraging message for all. She was fond of learning, versatile in her work ethnic and leaving a positive vibe to all who crossed her path.

Nanny had a strength and discipline admired by all who knew her. She enjoyed writing, reading, telling jokes, and was always keen to share a laugh or thoughtful story. She helped others even while going thru her own life struggles. Her legacy lives on in that she knew she had cancer and shared it with none of her family. In her final days Nanny had a happy-go-lucky spirit with going through her transition; she still managed to care for others and give a graceful message to us all to not complain.
A proud US Army veteran with an eye for detail, she put her best foot forward no matter the circumstances. Her final days were spent at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, where she received excellent care by the staff. The Hospice Home staff were very helpful to us in our time of bereavement, making sure our beloved was cared for and given excellent care during her transition. Our family would truly recommend Cedar Valley Hospice to anyone, and we would choose hospice over any hospital as she was clean and cared for with friendly and great compassion. They prayed with us and for our beloved transition and sent a beautiful card to show empathy. We thank and appreciate the great people at Cedar Valley Hospice who helped us in our time of bereavement.Â
